James Katz
Healthcare Department Manager
James Katz (CPA, MBT, CVA) is a healthcare department manager of
DS&B's Healthcare Group. With more than 15 years of public accounting
experience, he has established a broad perspective in income tax,
consulting and auditing to assist medical practices and physicians
with all of their accounting and personal financial needs. James'
background is well suited for the diverse and complex issues encountered
in serving medical practices.
As a Certified Valuation Analyst, James has valued businesses for
practice buy-ins, gift and estate tax, buy-sell agreements, merger
and acquisitions, and Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOP). He
has successfully completed the National Association of Certified
Valuation Analysts (NACVA) examination and quality enhancement program.
James also serves on the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants
business valuation conference planning committee and is treasurer
for the Minnesota chapter of the NACVA.
In addition to healthcare, James has other industry specialties
including general construction contracting and subcontracting (long-term
contract accounting), real-estate development and retail. He joined
DS&B in 2003 after progressing to the level of a senior manager
at another CPA firm.
James earned a B.S. in accounting and a Master's in business taxation,
both from the University of Minnesota. He is a Certified Valuation
Analyst - a designation issued by the National Association of Certified
Valuation Analysts, which is made up of more than 5,000 CPA's practicing
in the business valuation field. James is currently treasurer of
the Minnesota chapter of the NACVA and a member of the American
Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the MSCPA.
In his spare time, James enjoys golfing, traveling and spending
time with his family. He lives in Golden Valley with his wife Cindy
and daughters Sydney, Mia and Samantha.
